FRSC establishes help areas, deploys 36,000 personnel for easy flow of traffic


The Federal Road Safety Corp has established help areas to curb traffic gridlock and to ensure prompt response to safety and health issues this yelutide.  This measure is to ensure smooth vehicular flow to reduce incidences of gridlock as seasons like this attracts increased vehicular movement across the country.

This submission was made by the Corps Marshal and the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps  Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi at the FRCS headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Boboye said the help areas are Osara in Kogi State, Ilesha in Osun State, Ore in Oyo State, Mowe in Ogun State, Giri in FCT, Aguru in Enugu state.

Other areas include Ajaokuta in Kogi State, Lambatta in Niger state, Akwanga in Nassarawa state, Bazuaye in Bauchi State, Jattu in Edo state and Onigari in Iwo area along Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

The Corp Marshal also stressed the readiness of the FRSC to ensure safety of travelers.  He advised travelers to plan their journey adequately and to desist from carrying excess load as FRSC will be working with the Military and Police, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other stakeholders to curb excesses load and to ensure compliance with traffic rule and regulations.

Similarly, Dr. Boboye further  said that 36,000 of its personnel have been deployed to critical spots.  These comprise the Regular and Special Marshals, Logistics such as Power Bikes, Ambulances and rescue equipment will be made available; heavy duty trucks have also been provided for easy clearance of obstruction from the highways and also to remove recalcitrant offenders when the need arises.

However, Dr. Boboye said that with 285 trailer crashes recorded in the year 2016 especially along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, tanker drivers will be subjected to another round of training by next year.  He advised the association to provide parks for themselves as Government will not provide such for them.

He however highlighted possible alternative route for travelers who might need this to get to their destination as early as possible such as Lokoja-Kaba-Ayere-Akunu-Ise Junction-Ikare- Ado-Ekiti-Ilesha, Lokoja-kabba-Ayere-Akunu-Isu Junction-Oka Akoko, Lokoja-Okene-Ogori-Magogo-Owo, Lokoja-Ajaokuta-Ejule-Otukpa-Obollo Afor.

Others include 9th Mile-Udi-Oji River-Umunze, Bauchi- Alkaleri- Kaltungo, Kaduna- Kachia-Kwoi-Manchok, Keffi-Nassarawa-Toto-Abaji-Lokoja, Ikorodu- Sagamu, Lekki- Epe- Ijebu-Ode and Sango-Ifo- Abeokuta.

He reiterated his confidence with the measures painstakingly put in place for both people and vehicles during this Year’s Yuletide.  He therefore call on all agencies to support the Corps in their effort to make the road safer and secured within the period.
