The Federal Government under the Ministry or Petroleum resources has identified Capacity building as a key driver and strategy to re-positioning the oil and gas sector as the Federal Government has tactfully commence the process of implementing conceptualized initiatives to ramp up production, reduce cost, foster efficiency and attract investors to the oil and gas sector.

“It is pertinent to note that for these vision to be fully actualized the role of capacity building  cannot be overemphasized”

The Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Dr. Bello Aliyu made this assertion at the PTDF office on the occasion of the 10th Nigeria Association of Energy Economics in Abuja with the theme ‘ Energy, Economy and the Environment: The interplay of Technology, Economy and Public Policy’.

Dr. Bello noted that it is a well known fact that the petroleum industry is a dynamic and technology driven one and these technologies are imported for use in Nigeria, however the challenge is how to develop and acquire these technologies and related skills so that Nigerians can participate effectively in the management of the nation’s oil and gas industry.

Based on these premise, Dr Bello said it is the desire of the PTDF to create strong linkages with industry with a view to ensuring that the benefit of PTDF capacity building interventions are seamlessly realized through increased collaborations with stakeholders to drive the process of technology development, acquisition and transfer whilst ensuring the need to develop competencies in energy competencies in energy economics to ensure sustainable growth from oil and gas resources.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary who represented the Minster of state for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe kachukwu who stressed that all the stakeholders in the Nigeria oil and gas sector have been highly energized, no developed nation has ostracize technology, economics or public policy as the interplay of the three is important to achieve sustainable growth.
